Education, Singapore and stress.

September 15, 2008

“Why are my kids so stressed in [a Singapore] school?”

“The Singapore education system is too stressful!”

Comments of this nature pepper the press often enough.

But what we don’t tend to draw the public’s attention to are statements like these:

“How come my child gets so little homework from you?”

“Why didn’t you give my child any holiday homework??” [I'm going to take a crazy stab in the dark here and say that maybe, just maybe it has something to do with the word 'holiday'...]

If you ask me, nevermind students, I’d interview some parents first.

  1. The best route to a good education is to make it fun. There are an abundance of educational games that make the learning process fun for the student and teacher. Replacing the grind of text book homework that has to marked by an overworked teacher, a maths game played at home is a highly productive way of practising the lesson content and having fun.
